Street Tag has come to Harrow to help residents stay healthy
Street Tag has come to the streets of Harrow!
On Monday, 23 May 2022, Harrow Council and Street Tag collaborated to launch the free and fun Street Tag app on the streets of Harrow – to help residents get out, explore the borough and win Tesco shopping vouchers worth up to £100 and schools win prize money of up to £100 for the PTA projects.
Street Tag is a family-friendly app that will turn the parks and streets of Harrow into a virtual playground, with tag points up for grabs as residents explore their local area. It will reward schools, families, individuals, and communities for keeping active - making physical activity fun by converting walking, running, and cycling into Street Tag points (tags).
Residents can compete in teams or go at it alone to top the leaderboard and win prizes. Points are earned by actively walking, running, or cycling to and from places and collecting virtual tags scattered throughout the community.
Residents can find tags on school routes, local parks, and local events. After every 12 weeks, those earning the most points while collecting virtual tags will win a prize.
There is also a bi-monthly prize draw with prizes given to the winners. To qualify for the draw, you need to have collected 300 virtual tags and done 40,000 steps in either of the two months.
Cllr Pritesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Public Health, Harrow Council, said:
“We all know about the benefits of regular exercise, but sometimes we need a little encouragement. Street Tag is a great way to motivate families, children, and young people to explore the borough and get active together.”
You can turn your commute to work or school into a game to help you move more and earn more points. Additionally, you can earn points from doing your daily activities, such as going out for walks with the family to explore the local area or even just walking the dog. Do these activities consistently, and you stand a chance to win amazing prizes at the end of the season.
The app can run in the background when you set the settings, so there is no need to worry about bringing out your phone. It will automatically collect tags in a 40-metre radius allowing you to focus on your activity as you explore the borough.
Also, the launch of Street Tag in Harrow is accompanied by the launch of Harrow leaderboards for schools and the general public. As an extra incentive to get started, prizes will be awarded to the top 15 players across both leaderboards after the first 12 weeks of the program.
Download the Street Tag app today from Google Play or the Apple App Store and start tagging.
Cheers to having fun, exploring your borough, and staying healthy!
